So once again it's been awhile since my last blog post. I know I know but a girl's gotta go to the gym and do other stuff too. And I've been busy putting my new home office back together. The office took a bit longer than planned cause hubby ended up getting a part time job which involved some full time training. But as promised here are some pics of the new home office.

So here is a couple of pics of my home office when we moved in. It's actually the 2nd bedroom on the main floor but we need an office way more than a second bedroom. The walls were a pinky shade of white, the carpet was a mix of whites and blues; very 80's like and the pine trim was very orange.

A view of the room from a different angle. The day we got the house, Hubby and I only had a suitcase of clothes & some toiletry items. Everything else was on the moving truck.

And now finally a few after pics! Except for a few minor fix-ups here and there, the office is officially done. And here's a peak into all that occurred in making this space our own.
For starters we took down the ugly bedroom dome light, replaced it with the ceiling fan/light from the kitchen. Removed the door to the office. Installed a new window. Carpet & underlay which was unfortunately glued down, was ripped out & scraped off with tons and tons of elbow grease. Plywood floor was sanded down, washed with white paint and lacquered. Walls were painted a Wright Grey by Sico and trim & doors were painted some shade of off white. Hubby made the desks & all of the shelving with wood that we got super cheap at Home Depot & stained them in a Classic Grey. Filing Cabinet & a few other desk accessories were transformed from black to a Shade of Grey. Oh and almost forgot, we installed LED under shelf lighting too!
Eventually we will install hardwood flooring but who knows when & also thinking of either replacing our office chairs or recovering them. My chair is peeling badly & hubby's is a chair from a former place of work, gone wrong, so in a sense, might be bad feng shui to keep that chair. ( and fyi no hubby didn't steal that chair; company was tossing them out )
Thinkin it just might be better to replace the both of them!

There is a first for everything! First time seeing our backyard in the autumn season. Yep lots of leaves to rake but they will be put to good use as we are adding them to our semi raised garden beds pictured behind the doggy fence.

Told you previously that we are doing a bit of an Office renovation. Old carpet & glued down underlay have been removed, plywood floor has been given a white wash & three coats of lacquer & walls have been painted a warm gray. Will be painting the trim today. Not sharing any Office pics until the room is done so keeping you in suspense for awhile longer. Stay tuned for pics coming soon!

In the meantime, here's a pic of hubby's clothes closet and yes it is on a chair in the living room and yes it will remain there until his closet in the office is ready for his clothes to return.
But I'm back & that's all that counts right!
Well doing stuff at my daughter's house kind of got me in the mood for renovating again and it's fall & that kind of got me in the renovating mood as well. But after our 2 trips this summer, not a lot of cash in the renovating budget at the moment.
Well so here's our long term plan, Plan A. Eventually we want to install hardwood flooring on almost all of the main floor ( master bedroom, office, hallway, living room ) & we want it to be all the same. Kitchen already has a nice hardwood floor & main bath is getting a different type of flooring. But doing all this flooring simultaneously with quality hardwood involves a bit more cash than we can spend at the moment.
But at the same time, we want to give our main floor rooms a coat of paint, a bit of an update & make the spaces more our own without breaking the bank. So decision has been made to do that & leave the flooring until a later date. The carpeting in most of the rooms has been updated & in decent shape and I can live with it. But the office carpet is another story. I'm sure it's original to our home's beginnings and it kind of looks like someone got sick on it. And that's where this reno begins. We were talking about it just yesterday and came up with a simple temporary fix. Remove the carpet & stain/paint the plywood underlay & update the office with paint, shelving and a new desk. Sounds like a simple, easy peasy fix right? Well I thought the whole carpet would have been removed today & we could stain or paint the plywood in a day or two. Wrong, turns out the carpet has been glued to the plywood underlay and not only do we have to scrape the underlay off, but the glue as well. A bit more work than we bargained for. Honestly who glues carpet to the plywood underlay?
We all know that Rome wasn't built in a day & neither will this space!

All but a small section of carpeting has been removed; but that is the easy part. Been using fabric softener to remove the glue as it worked well when removing wallpaper. Any other solutions/ideas are definitely most welcome!

So Efficiency Nova Scotia came by and installed this warm blanket on our water heater absolutely at no cost to us. They also installed a low flow tap aerator & low flow shower head. Could have also got some energy efficient light bulbs but that's something we already did. If you are living in Nova Scotia and could use some energy efficient product upgrades absolutely free, you might want to check them out. Just click on my underlined link to find out more.
So far I'm in Love with my Space Age Looking Hot Water Heater Blanket; hoping it will create more cash for travel & home renos!
What most folks would most likely consider trash, I consider as treasure. Call me crazy, call me weird, call me whatever. Maybe I've gone Postal! I kind of think I may have been a Pirate in a previous life. For me finding something appealing whatever it may be is kind of like getting a great deal on something at the store. Kind of gives me a high of sorts. Start The Car!

We've been starting to kick around some ideas for renovating our office, main bath & master bedroom but not sure which room will be renovated first or last or when any of it will all happen. But part of our office renovations includes moving the armoire from the office into the downstairs guest bedroom and so hubby and I slowly & carefully did that. But to fit the armoire into the guest bedroom we needed to get rid of the existing built in cabinets so we did that too. But when we removed them, we noticed that they had been installed before painting so now there was an 80's/90's hunter green outline on the wall. And while I'm so not ready to re-do this guest room yet, I do want to make it somewhat decent for future guests. Eventually hoping to rip out the Hunter Green carpet and re-paint a different colour but for now planning to re-paint the existing colour on the hunter green border as well as any damaged areas. It's kind of an off white with pinkish undertones to it, but will have to do for now cause I'm just not ready!
Gotta love it when one project leads to another...

Here'a a pic of our guest bedroom when we purchased the house. Looks like it belongs in the 90's or 80's or even earlier don't ya think?
Hubby has been plastering & fixing up the damaged dry wall but you can still see the remains of the Hunter Green outline.

Well actually I know where it's gone to!... from an RV trip to Ontario to visit family & friends, a couple of family & friend visits to our new home here, the installation of new windows on our main floor and a few other small renovations here and there as well as outdoor yard work & regular maintenance. Well that's where it's gone. Thought I'd share a few pics of some of the happenings around here.

So all the Main Floor Windows are brand spanking new! Hubby & Our Two Darling Sons helped install them all except for two smaller ones in the back which I helped Hubby with. Saved a ton of labour costs by DIYing it! Just cost us a few pizzas and beer! Front door & Shutters were painted a warm grey, better known as Welded Iron from The Behr Collection. No more Pepto Bismol blue here except for some remnants of it on the front step. Yeah still need to work on that one; just need to think about it some more!

Penny Lane loves hanging out & ripping around in her new Penny space. So much easier for us to just open the door & allow her run freely outside.

We didn't want to fence off the whole yard due to the expense of it and we really didn't need a big fence either cause Penny's one small pup, so we just fenced off a smaller portion of the yard using chicken wire and discounted pieces of pressure treated lumber from the remnant bins at our nearby Lumber Yard. The existing 8 foot or so frost fence on the left side of the yard, saved us from having to fence that side. Just had to block off a few possible Penny escape routes along the bottom!

Meet some of my new neighbours! Just happened to take a break from my computer and peeked out of my office window to spot this Mama Pheasant & her 9 young ones across the street on my neighbour's lawn.

We had a couple of rain barrels back in Hamilton Ontario and wanted to carry on conserving water here as well. Always trying to do our part for the environment & re-using water saves money too. Got this one delivered right to my door for free. Well not exactly for free. Been doing surveys for a company for several years now and finally decided to redeem some of the points I had earned for this new addition. Kind of late in the season to put plants in the planters that are meant to sit atop of the barrel, but come next spring they will definitely be put to good use.
We've been trying to keep existing light fixtures & painting them for a more updated look, but we just couldn't imagine keeping this one even in our wildest dreams. (Oh by the way the fact that some of the glass hanging thingys on this fixture were cracked/broken and the fact that this fixture required 11 light bulbs, helped to justify the need to purchase a new fixture.) Although re-purposing what you already have definitely helps to keep costs down, we did find a fairly inexpensive replacement at Ikea. And you check it out; second pic below!

Hallway Light Before

Our new pendant hallway light which we picked up while on vacation at Ikea. NO we didn't vacation at Ikea, we just stopped at one while on vacation. I do love Ikea enough to perhaps vacation at one especially now that we don't live anywhere close to one. So terribly sad.

Hallway Light After

And this one only requires one lonely light bulb.

Only problem is, I still have the remains of the old hallway light fixture and the non broken glass thingys too and I still want to do something with them, just not necessarily together. Despise the thought of this ending up in the landfill.Could be two completely different projects & not necessarily anything to do with lighting! Any ideas are most definitely welcome & greatly appreciated. Hope I can share a pic of this all being re-purposed in the not too distant future.
Counting on y'all for a bit of help here! Please and thank you!
While I was away I did some eating, well of course I did. But here's a simple recipe of something I simply can't get enough of. It's my sister in law's recipe and she makes this fabulous stuff every time we manage to get to the cottage. Although I love this stuff, I will never make it at home; it's simply too good & way too addictive. It's something I only eat at the cottage. Go ahead & try it for yourself and see if you can limit yourself to just one piece!

Well you can't always go places & you can't always go shopping cause that costs money. And unfortunately money isn't something that grows on trees, well at least not around here. So sometimes you just gotta stay home & amuse yourself. Been amusing ourselves with this little project.
Took our old medicine cabinet from the downstairs bathroom & re-purposed it. Hubby removed the mirror glass, painted it & the knobs, and added some chicken wire. It was a fairly inexpensive project since we had the chicken wire from a fence project currently being built for Penny L & the paint was left behind by the previous homeowner. I know it's the Pepto-Bismol blue that was used to paint my front door & outdoor trims which I so want to get rid of. But somehow in it' s freshly-painted state & on this particular project, it doesn't look too shabby at all. Doesn't mean we're gonna re-paint our front door & trims this colour though! We've been experimenting with colours on photo shop and so far we're leaning towards a grey colour for those projects.
Last month we had a weekend where you put out usable stuff that you no longer want & where others can pick up perfectly good stuff & prevent it from going in the landfill. We put out a bunch of stuff & thankfully most of it found new homes. Not a fan of seeing good stuff go into the garbage. Hubby wanted to put this medicine cabinet out cause we didn't have a use for it at the time. So glad I convinced him to hang onto it for the time being!
Oh and I painted the memories sign with chalk paint and searched my many boxes of collectibles to find some decor stuff to add. If you check out the pics below, you will see that the old metal irons have a dual purpose. Sometimes hubby can be such an Einstein and I don't mean that sarcastically!

If you forgot what the medicine cabinet looked like before, here is a before pic when it was still hanging in the downstairs bathroom.

Hubby was looking to find something to flatten homemade burgers on the grill and remembered we had these old- fashioned irons. They work amazingly well!
We transported this plant, a Passion Flower from Ontario in the midst of winter and it survived. Here is it's first bloom in it's new home. However it is a plant that must winter indoors. The bloom almost looks unreal don't ya think?
So many places to explore without going very far. Since we're new to this province, there definitely is so much for us to explore & discover. Decided to visit Alexander Keith's Brewery Tour in Halifax last weekend with darling youngest son who was at home for the weekend. For roughly $25 you get a one hour tour of the brewery and 2 full glasses of the beers of your choosing. The tour takes you back to the time of the brewery beginnings. Really enjoyed the tour and would highly recommend; only downfall according to me was you had to drink your 2 glasses very quickly. So I only enjoyed 1 glass; wishing I could have sipped the 2nd in the pub afterwards at a much more leisurely place. Would have been a nice moment to unwind & talk about the experience! But all in all a great time and would highly recommend! Ideal thing to do on a rainy day in Halifax, which unfortunately have been plentiful this past week.

Here's a few pics of our tour at Keith's. (video recording is not permitted) Maybe one day you'll make it here and you might even learn how their India Pale Ale got it's name.
And what I love most about the weather here, is while we have some pretty warm days it seems to cool off in the evenings. Ideal for sleeping & so far no need for fans or air conditioning. And definitely not missing the humidity that was oh so common in Ontario.

Spotted this sign at the Doggy Daycare on my way into town. Had to share it with you just to prove we do have summer weather here in Nova Scotia.
Oh and here's a pic of my house without all the snow. Haven't done much out front other than add a few plants here and there. Really need to paint the the front door and shutters to get rid of the Pepto Bismol blue colour. Any ideas on what colour to paint them are most welcome?

.In the early spring, hubby dug up part of the lawn to create a mini vegetable/flower garden. But by fall this little garden will have to go. Need to widen the driveway to make more room for Olaf our RV. Also found out there's too much shade here for gardening so the garden needs to find a sunnier hangout. Hubby has already removed the wood beams that created the edging and has removed some ornamental plants too.

Came home from the gym the other day and Hubby had started digging a pond. It's amazing what all happens while I'm at the gym. And I thought he said we weren't gonna have another pond. Well I guess that didn't happen. If you look to the far right in this pic, you will notice our mushroom. It was created using an old dome light from our office and a glass carafe we had kicking around. Idea came from Pinterest of course! I wanted to turn it into a bird bath but the mushroom idea won out.
We have a bunch of prickly berry bushes here and there and everywhere. This is gonna be their new home once berry season is done. Too many thorns attacking us when we try to interact in our gardens. Hubby took the beams from our mini garden to create this space.

Hello Again Hello, Hello My Friend Hello!

Stole that line from Neil Diamond. Not actually stealing cause I am giving him credit for it. Just thought it was an appropriate way to begin my post since I've been an absentee blogger.
Now that the weather is nice there is just so much to do around here. And who wants to be inside blogging when you can be outside watching fertilizer grow! Yep you read that right!
A few weeks ago we purchased some grass seed to fill in a few spots in the lawn and we've been patiently waiting for the grass seeds to sprout ever since. Hubby has been faithfully watering the areas & regular rain and warm daytime temps have been ideal for growing grass. But not a single blade of grass to be seen. We both were puzzled as to why the seed was not sprouting since we bought xyz brand of grass seed which is supposed to be one of the better brands. And we had purchased cheaper brands in the past with better results. So earlier this week, hubby finally decided to check out the grass seed bag in the garage to see if it would tell him when we could expect to see some green... and he came in grinning.
For the past few weeks we had been growing fertilizer or at least attempting to!

But seriously I have really been busy and here's why. Our RV now known as Olaf arrived just in time to celebrate Canada Day and we've been busy spiffing him up ever since. And why did we call it Olaf? Well no particular reason. We were just sitting around after dinner sipping wine & chatting and hubby thought we should give the RV a name. Hubby had volunteered in Tunisia many moons ago and had traveled in a van called Wilma, and that lead to our discussion of naming the RV. We wanted something simple & memorable so Olaf it is. I will no longer be calling it an RV or a trailer which was stuck in my head due to being a previous camping trailer owner.

Well speaking of Olaf, let me tell you about some of the mischief he has already created. Firstly found a mouse nest in his insides, thankfully no mices. Then one of his dirty rugs decided to remove it's backing and clog up the filter in my washing machine. Oh that was fun & a lot of unexpected amount of time consumption. Can't wait for what other mischief he will bestow upon us next!

On another note we bought a bike carrier so we can take Penny Lane along on bike rides with us. Finally got around to giving it a practice ride around the block. Hoping to take a much needed break from spiffing up Olaf & heading out on a longer bike ride soon.
Well here they are; was waiting for the mirror glass to arrive.

The first two pics are how the bathroom looked before. As you can see it was only a half bath with with the washer & dryer sharing the space.

And here are the after pics.

Let me give you a rundown about all that happened here. First we removed old washer & dryer and sold them so we could purchase a stacking washer/dryer unit for our utility room. And then removed pretty much everything else.
To cut costs we kept the original cabinet & just painted it & purchased new hardware for it.

An old picture frame we had kicking around was turned into a mirror by just purchasing a piece of mirrored glass. A few Ikea finds such as the light fixture above the vanity, the sink & the faucet were relatively inexpensive purchases.

Toilet & tub & new window were purchased on sale. The wood looking wall & ceiling were made of an inexpensive but high grade of plywood & then stained. Shelving was created by using leftover plywood & re-using some of the laminate that was above the old washer & dryer. We kind a splurged a bit on the counter top & on the flooring but hey sometimes you just gotta splurge on something. What I love about the new counter most is that hubby moved the vanity over & extended the counter to create more surface as well as an open shelf below. And another thing he did which you can't actually see, is create a fully functional top drawer instead of a fake one.
Lovin my new space already!
OK so it wasn't exactly a great hair day thanks to the wind but it was a great day to try my first lobster roll ever. And trust me I was being adventurous cause I'm not exactly the adventurous type when it comes to food. Yep I'm thinking lobster rolls can grow on me! Here's a few pics of beach finds minus driftwood ones found while walking on Martinique Beach. Found a bunch of broken sand dollars but then Peter found a complete one YAY and some pretty sea glass too!
Sadly we spotted not one but two dead seals on the beach. Tells me there must be live ones hanging around here. Hopefully next time we'll be spotting some live ones instead. R.I.P. & may you guys go to seal heaven!

Ever hear the story about the fish that got away? Well today was one of those days but it was a perfect pic that got away and not a fish!
While hubby and I were puttering around outside, hubby spotted a deer on our front lawn, but by the time we went to check it out, Daddy Deer had ran down the road and disappeared. But then we spotted Mama Deer & Baby Deer by the mailboxes on the roadside. Hubby ran in to get his camera but I scared them away before he could get a pic. They were so close to the road and I was afraid they were gonna run in front of a car that was ripping down the street. It was the coolest thing ever cause they were so close and baby deer was a white one and I have never seen a white deer before! Hubby did manage to get a pic in the distance shortly after, but if I had a camera I could have gotten a super close up pic! Some of the high school kids walking back to school after lunch were calling it an Albino Deer, but I what I learned from the Internet is that it was a rare genetic variation called a piebald deer.
Have you ever seen a white deer? This one was the cutest thing ever! Hope I'll get to see it again to get a better pic!
Got our heat pump installed last Friday. Seems like these are all the rage here in Nova Scotia. Really didn't hear much about them in Ontario, perhaps cause we had access to natural gas which is a whole lot cheaper way to heat your house. We have no access to natural gas where we are & rely on electric baseboard heaters to heat our home, so hoping this will bring the hydro costs down. Apparently these heat pumps also help to keep your home cool in the summer. If you want to learn more about Heat Pumps my link will give you a bit of info about them.

This is what the Heat Pump looks like on the inside.

And this is a view of the Heat Pump from the outside.
When I left the YMCA in Hamilton Ontario (my gym of many years) just a few short months ago, I was deeply saddened to leave all those behind who had inspired me over the years especially Geth ( my favourite) an 80 + years old calisthenics instructor. While those special folks continue to inspire me, yes even at a distance and they all will forever hold a special place in my heart, I'm thrilled to report I've found some new Inspirees in places I never would have thought I would ever venture to.
And oddly enough it all kind of happened by circumstance.
Y' all know when I joined my new gym in February, I really didn't like it cause I so badly wanted the familiarity of my old gym back. I missed my friends, my classes, my routine and just plain old familiarity. I had to force myself to go and I just went through my familiar motions on the elliptical machine & while doing my strength training routine.
But I knew deep down that to feel more comfortable there, I needed to meet folks and I knew this would occur more readily via attending group fitness classes verses flying solo!
So that's where the story begins. I know long story but ya gotta know all the details of how I got here. To make a long story short, tried a bunch of classes that suited my favourite time to exercise which is mornings. Some I liked, some I didn't, some just didn't feel right due to chronic lower back & elbow injuries & issues.
Just so happened that a few Zumba classes were on the morning schedule and although I had never tried Zumba before, thought I would throw caution to the wind and at least make an honest attempt at it.
I've been a front to back/one step in front of the other/ tight-assed/linear kind of exerciser for a good part of my life so Zumba would definitely be throwing me a Curve Ball or Fireball I might add ( inside joke).
And that it did indeed. I felt awkward & clumsy moving my body in ways it had never moved before.
And ya know what I still do! But oddly enough I don't care and I the more I go to Zumba, the more I feel I can let loose! And what is even more odd is that I'm a self-conscious perfectionist that does care how I thinks others sees me! I don't like to be in the Limelight & I definitely don't like to be watched or know that someone is watching me.
But getting back to what this story is really all about, is Inspiration found in a place I'd never thought I'd ever be; ZUMBA! And its all thanks to a couple of Zumba Instructors who have made it onto my list of Inspirees cause of their enthusiasm, high energy, optimism... you name it.

ZUMBA Really Who Would a thunk! Fireball!

On another note Whole House Reno continues! I know I promised you some pics of the half finished basement bath. Couldn't get any while the bath was being used by out of town guests for over a week. Well I decided I'm gonna keep you in suspense awhile longer and will wait to share pics until the room is actually completed. So stay tuned!

But if you wanna see some pics, here's a pic of my basement rec room retro bar before we got rid of it. I know you're gonna say why did you get rid of it. Honestly I don't need a bar to drink wine; trust me I can do that without a bar. But what I do need is a pantry/storage area to store some grocery/household stuff that I buy a ton of, when the stuff comes on sale!

So while my Bro from Ontario was in town, he & hubby built a pantry where the old bar used to be. Still have plenty of space for the elliptical & weight bench & a sofa for guests. And now I have plenty of storage space too. YAY!

As you can see some wine has already found it's way into my pantry. Told ya I didn't need a bar to drink wine!

Looking at this pic that hubby photo shopped together, the shelves appear crooked, kind of how it might look if one had a little too much wine that is. Honestly they are as straight as can be! Can't wait to fill this pantry up!

I confess I have never been a big fan of Seafood! Growing up I didn't eat fish not even fish & chips. Well I did eat chips and plenty of them. Hubby has been trying to convert me and I have to admit seafood is definitely growing on me. And now that I'm living in area where seafood is at it's best, I'm trying to be adventurous & spread my Foodie Wings. Since I've landed in Nova Scotia, I've eaten haddock aka fish & chips, halibut & salmon purchased roadside from a truck selling fresh seafood and lobster poutine! Can't go wrong with anything poutine!

My first Lobster Poutine! Enjoyed this fabulous meal with hubby darling son & daughter in-law & visiting family, bro & sis in-law! Great Company Great Times & also an excuse to be an absentee blogger!

While I haven't always been a fan of Seafood, I have been a longtime fan of Driftwood. Love the weathered look of it, the uniqueness of each piece and the feel of the smooth wood grain.
Actually found it in the trash several years ago. It's damaged but it will be perfect for my basement bathroom. Gonna leave it as is, except for a few coats of lacquer to prevent it from further deteriorating & gonna add a piece of mirror glass. I know it's easy to just go to the store & buy everything brand new but sometimes a used piece has a bit of character and helps you achieve a look that is unique. And of course, using something you already have saves a bit of cash too! Ya probably have figured it out by now that I'm a fan of the distressed, weathered & worn look! And I love giving an object a new purpose in life!
Right now downstairs bath is being used by visiting Ontarians so downstairs bathroom pics coming soon! Stay tuned!

Why buy new when used will do!

Went for a beachy walk with Penny. Penny L loved digging in the sand & barking at people & dogs. The beach we visited was Lawrencetown Beach which a popular beach for the surfing crowd. Not much of a surfer so didn't do any of that. And besides it was mighty chilly & windy the day we went. Could have, should have put on an extra layer or two!
No I'm not talking about standing upright or balancing on one foot or anything like that. I'm referring to finding a balance of spending time on a variety of tasks & fun stuff I want to do it all and despite having just as many hours in a day as anyone else, I never seem to get my too do stuff all done. Oh there are so many things that I want & need to do like exercise, bike ride, go for walks with Penny L, clean the house, do laundry, work in the yard, enter contests, coupon, shop, read, research and blog, the list goes on and on ...

Although I have a difficult time focusing, once I do get focused on something, I get totally obsessed with completing the task and neglect doing other things. And right now I'm obsessed with digging dandelions out of the lawn, as fun as that may sound! (Yeah unfortunately there are dandelions in Nova Scotia!)
In fact I've had to limit myself to digging out just one bucket a day weather permitting, otherwise I would be out there digging from morning till night!
After all a bucket a day keeps the doctor away right? Oh right that expression is solely for apples and it's just one apple and not a whole bucket of them!

While hubby worked on installing the downstairs bath tub surround, I primed the old vanity. Well Penny L insisted on helping out. She took great interest in the paint roller as well as the foam brush and so this is what painting with a chihuahua looks like! Didn't read anything about painting with chihuahua's in Chihuahua's For Dummies! Perhaps that's a chapter that will be added to a new revised edition!

Oh by the way, downstairs bath & surround are fully installed & functional. Walls are being prepped for painting and flooring is here and waiting to be installed. And a gym friend who lives in the neighbourhood stopped in while walking her dog and she is gonna loan me her dandelion puller. I wonder if I'll be able to fill my bucket faster. Maybe I should increase my daily dose of dandelions to two buckets!

Although indoor renovation continues, gardening is also on the go. Hubby has been digging up a patch of grass in the backyard to create a veggie/herb garden. Got the railway ties for free from the other side of the fence in No Man's Land!

Well it's definitely official now that I've Gone Coastal with this pillow hanging out on one of my new Ikea chairs in my living room! I've been admiring these customized pillows from afar from Girliture and I now am the proud owner of one myself thanks to darling son & darling daughter in-law. They delivered it yesterday as a housewarming gift. Love it! It will also go perfectly with my new sofa once I get it.

I may have mentioned this before, more than likely I did. But just about anything exterior, at my place is painted a blue, a blue that in my mind is what Pepto Bismol would look like if it was blue! It may have been a pretty colour when it was originally painted but it has definitely faded and now is what I call Pepto Bismol Blue and I'm definitely not loving it.
Even the front step was painted in that colour. For the most part this lovely Pepto blue didn't bother me all winter, but when folks or delivery people came through the front door, pieces that were peeling from the front step often found their way indoors. Good thing we didn't use the front door all that often.
I know it was Mother's Day today and all, but the weather was gorgeous so I decided that the Pepto Bismol on the front step had to go.
Was gonna take a before pic but once I got hold of the power washer there was no holding back. You can still see a little of the Pepto Blue colour. Just had to leave a little so you could actually see the colour. But by the end of the week, I reckon it'll be gone!
I consider it a Mother's Day gift to myself! Happy Mother's Day to all the Mamas's out there!
Well been backing off on cleaning up the yard and back is feeling a whole lot better. Rode my bike to gym for the second time ever. Maybe it wasn't such a great idea. Did a spin class just before, had nothing left in my tank and there was a strong headwind combined with a few climbs. Done need I say more!

Took a mini stroll to no man's land just behind my backyard because I'd been officially cut off from doing yard work ( thanks to my sore back ) and discovered this cool stream & mini waterfalls. Not the best pic cause I just took it with my phone. Need to bring hubby back here when he's done with all the yard work.

We had pork chops on the barbecue yesterday and hubby decided to give Penny L a bone to chomp on . Well kind of freaked her out. Here's a mini video of what it looked like.
But glad to have him back safe & sound. And now that youngest darling son is now living in New Brunswick for a new phase of ATC training, I now have 2 of my 3 kids close by. It won't be long term but hey I'll take what I can get.
Oh and here's a couple of better views of my now pretty much completed kitchen reno.

Can't believe it actually happened but I'm glad to report that as of Monday ALL of the snow has melted from my yard both back and front. There is still snow to be seen, mostly in shaded areas and in parking lots where it was pushed together by the snow plows. So have been spending time outdoors cleaning up the yard. But have had to back off thanks to my chronic back issues. My house used to back up against a golf driving range which no longer exists; now I have a new phase of subdivision being built which is a work in progress. But I still have the sign to prove there was once a golf driving range next door! Fore!

Now that hubby is back downstairs bath reno is back on track. New tub has been delivered and is awaiting installation. It will be great to have a second bathroom for guests and easy access to a bathroom when working outdoors. Perhaps you can't see it clearly but I did remove lots of glue & tile from the floor when hubby was away!

I always feel guilty when I skip going to the gym. I have a mindset that tells me I need to go at least 3 times a week. But my back has been super achy and I know from past experience that it is telling me to back off. Maybe it was my first bike ride to the gym that did it in. Although it was a shorter bike ride than I used to do to get my old gym, it was definitely a tougher one with a few pretty good small hills to climb. And it was also my first outdoor bike ride this season.
I'm sure that the floor that I've been patiently scraping, has also contributed to my back issues! Hopefully I can get to the gym at least one more day this week!
On another note, I did go for an hour long walk with Penny L today, hoping it would loosen up my back. But it didn't. But Penny definitely needs a little more exposure to the outside world after this long long winter.

Oh look what I found on my walk! No not the Cesar's Rules book; that was given to me to read, by a new gym friend & neighbour. It was the $5 dollar bill that I found wrapped around a tree. Kind of glad now that I went for a walk instead of going to the gym!

Super happy that my $500 gift card prize from a contest came in! That is a prize we definitely can use. Well who can't use groceries right? Been spending a fair bit of cash on renovating & stuff for the new house. Kind of freaks me out even though we did budget cash for that reason.

Well folks it's the first of May. Kind of hard to believe as we still have some snow in the backyard. And I'm sure there are still snow mountains at the plaza & in parking lots. Kind of been a drab, gloomy kind of week.Right now I don't care if it's cold out but I just wanna see some sunshine!

Here's to sunshine!
